Profile
I am a gardener with many years' experience working in various public and private gardens. I Qualified in Landscape and Horticulture at Askham Bryan in 1978. Recently I have been involved in running a community garden for people with Learning Disabilities. I like helping to create places which are beautiful and enjoyable, teeming with wildlife and special to the people who use them. I love my work.
All too often gardens are looked upon as a space to be kept tidy , or a buffer between us and the neighbours. The fashion of putting down hard surfacing to reduce maintenance means wildlife suffer through loss of habitat . Collectively our gardens contribute massively to the biodiversity of the area.
My maintenance work includes:
Weeding
Tending borders
Pruning climbing plants
Pruning fruit trees and bushes and mowing small lawns
I am an enthusiastic composter and nothing biodegradable will go to landfill.
I also offer a design service which can be participatory to enable the client's (your) needs and wishes to be fully addressed. Initial consultations are free of charge. I undertake soft landscaping on a small scale on my own. For hard landscape work I can team up with contractors to implement a scheme.
